Forming Partnerships, Near and Far
A major focus of our work at Sonora Area Foundation is forming partnerships with the community – individuals, businesses, groups, clubs and then assisting them in meeting their charitable giving goals. Everyone wants to maximize the good done with their contribution and our relationships with area nonprofits and knowledge of the community allows us the ability to assist our donors with placing their gift where it will do the most good. The majority of our partnerships are local. However, recently out of area companies doing business in our area and interested in supporting Tuolumne County have found their way to Sonora Area Foundation.
Here’s one example. McMillen Jacobs Associates is a contractor performing work for the San Francisco PUC (Public Utilities Commission) at their Moccasin facility (Hetch Hetchy). They are also a participant in the SF PUC Community Benefits Program where contractors agree to fund nonprofit programs near SF PUC facilities. After learning of Sonora Area Foundation’s services, McMillen Jacobs Associates established a charitable giving fund with the Foundation initially funded with $22,800. Grants have been made from the fund to support: the three Tuolumne County FFA chapters, the Columbia College Promise Scholarship and ACES (Animal Care Emergency Services) and recently the STEM program at the County Schools Office, all fitting the mission of McMillen Jacobs Associates.
This quote from the company outlines the partnership benefits:
“To honor its legacy of social responsibility, McMillen Jacobs Associates launched the McMillen Jacobs Associates Community Fund with the Sonora Area Foundation. The Sonora Area Foundation has built a deep partnership with McMillen Jacobs Associates by connecting us to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) needs in Tuolumne County. The Sonora Area Foundation facilitates, communicates, and proposes recommendations towards particular charitable programs that fits our mission statement and community benefits program and allows our team to grant from the fund we established at the Foundation.”
We appreciate the partnership with McMillen Jacobs Associates and all they are doing to support our community.
